This is an elegant vintage Sailfish Pin or Brooch. It is not a flat pin, there is a 3 Dimensional feel to it with a lovely curved and raised surface area. The metal has excellent detailed lines and separations in the back fin. It is almost like a piece of art instead of just a brooch. Some people mistakenly refer to this as a Marlin or a Swordfish. It features a large sail fin on the back and has a simulated pearl in the mouth between the beak. It has the typical arched pose of a Sailfish jumping out of the water.

It is in good vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged pictures. There is some patina to the finish in spots where the gold has developed a silvery sheen to it as though it had rubbed off slightly, but I think it is just color change. It measures 2 inches from the back sail fin to the pearl end and 2 inches from the top of the fin to the bottom of the tail. The pin on the back has a safety C-Clasp, which works just fine. This brooch is almost identical to the pin made by Trifari, except that one has a rhinestone eye and the pearl is more of a teardrop shape. The body and details are the same.

This uniquely individual piece of jewelry would make a great addition to your collection of vintage figural jewelry or a gift for your favorite fisherman or fisherwoman. What great fun this would be to wear as an accessory for anyone who enjoys Sportsfishing. It will be the big catch that didn't get away.
