The first one man exhibition of Basil Ede's work was held at the Rowland Ward Gallery in London in 1958. Further one man exhibitions followed at London's Tryon Gallery in 1960 and 1962.
In 1964, Ede became the first living artist to be honoured with a one man show at the National Collection of Fine Arts, Washington D.C. The event was sponsored by the British Embassy, the English Speaking Union and the National Audubon Society.
The European greenfinch, or just greenfinch is a small passerine bird in the finch family Fringillidae.
This bird is widespread throughout Europe, north Africa and south west Asia. It is mainly resident, but some northernmost populations migrate further south. The greenfinch has also been introduced into both Australia and New Zealand.
In Malta it is considered a prestigious song bird which has been trapped for many years. It has been domesticated and many Maltese people breed them.
The greenfich was described by Linnaeus in 1758 in his Systema Naturae under the binomial name of Loxia chloris. The scientific name is from khloris, the Ancient Greek name for this bird, from khloros, "green".
