Item description for Vintage Celtic Scottish Thistle Brooch Pin Pewter Heathergems Cabochon

This is a beautiful vintage Celtic or Scottish oval brooch or pin with a border of eight detailed small Thistles in relief, framing an inset Heathergems cabochon center. It is made from a dark silver tone metal, which is most likely Pewter. It has a central colorful glass stone that I believe is a Heather Gems Cabochon. Every Heathergem is unique and no two are the same. According to the company Heathergems are made from the stems of heather gathered on the moors and hills of the Scottish Highlands. Each piece is hand made by Scottish craft workers. The stems are processed by putting cross sections of the heather stems together and dying those different colors, mixing and pressure pressing and then cutting and polishing to form colorful mosaics and unusual patterns. The brooch measures approximately 1 ¾ inches across and 1 ½ inches high. The center stone is approximately ¾ of an inch by ½ inch.

This brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The silver metal rollover pin safety clasp works just fine. There is no loss of finish and the pewter has a lovely antiqued patina, the white spots in the photos are the silver shine reflecting on the pewter, not a defect. It looks much prettier than the pictures. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be the perfect addition to anyone’s collection of Celtic or Scottish jewelry. It is perfect for a man or a woman. It would look lovely on a jacket lapel, as a shawl or scarf pin or as a Kilt Pin.
