This is an adorable little carved skunk brooch or pin that was made out of wood from California Sequoia Redwood Burl, which comes from the worlds oldest and largest trees. I believe this is from the 1940s to 1960s and was most likely purchased as a souvenir on one of several trips made to California.
The skunk has a pink daisy on the top of the head and hand painted eyes and striped tail accents. The pin measures approximately 1 ¾ of an inch tall from the tip of the tail to the bottom of the foot and almost 2 inches across.
The front of the brooch is in good vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. There are a few little crazing cracks in the glaze that only show with magnification. On the back, the pin is glued on and there is an extra hole where I'm sure the pin back was once screwed in rather than glued on. The pin was probably replaced along the way or moved to a different position, but it doesn't detract from the front and how cute the pin is when on. The lower price reflects this damage on the back. The skunk has a shiny clear finish.
This would make a great addition to your collection of vintage wood jewelry or your collection of skunks. It reminds me of the little skunk, Flower from the Disney Movie "Bambi".
