This is an unusual 3 part figural brooch or pin in the shape of an old fashioned propeller airplane, it reminds me of the Spirit of St. Louis from 1927 when “Lucky Lindy” landed safely in Paris after a 33 hour flight from New York. The brooch is signed on the back “Ultra Craft ©” in a rectangular cartouche. Ultra Craft was a company from Rhode Island. This is most likely from the 1960s to 1970s.

This is a substantial brooch and is quite large. You can get an idea of the size by the photo of the plane in my hand. The plane measures 3 inches from the propeller to the tail and 2” from top to bottom. The plane is all done in a pewter or pewter like metal and the wing is a very shiny gold tone metal. The propeller on the plane is attached to the front and spins around. This moveable component is a whimsical and fun addition to the brooch. The goldtone piece is attached to the top of the pewter plane with a riveted construction.

It is in very good vintage condition with just a slight discoloration or tarnish on the top of the gold wing (see photos). You don't really notice it without magnification. It has a sturdy roll over safety clasp that is attached to the bottom of the gold wing on the back.

What a perfect gift this would make for your favorite pilot or vintage plane collector. It is truly a unique pin. I have not found another one like it. If you collect figural art brooches or mechanical pins this is one to add to your collection.
