BING & GRONDAHL 1972 Christmas Plate
Christmas in Greenland

is the title of the 1972 Bing and Grondahl Christmas plate, the 78th plate in the series – the longest running and most popular series of collector plates ever produced. It features a sled and team of sled dogs heading home for “Christmas in Greenland”.  (Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark.  Denmark still retains control over foreign affairs, defense and currency.) The Christmas Star (found on almost all B&G Christmas plates) burns brightly in the sky.

The scene is embossed on the porcelain and hand painted in cobalt blue under the glaze. Diameter approximately 7.2 inches (18 cm). Pierced foot for hanging wire. Appropriately marked on the back, including the three tower trademark of Bing & Grondahl.  Artwork by Henry Thelander. Original Issue Price was $16.50 in 1972.
