This compact evergreen groundcover has bright green new growth in the spring turning a bronze-purple in the winter. All year- round it is an excellent groundcover with dense branching and a full center growing 2 feet tall. Best performs as a foundation plant and groundcover.
This low-maintenance evergreen needs a regular water schedule to ensure the growth of a mature root system. After the mature root system is established, watering is needed occasionally, except during a drought, watering is needed regularly. Prune once or twice a year around the edges in order to keep the middle of the plant full.
Andorra Compacta is a very hardy, useful juniper that can be used as a low growing foundation planting, groundcover, or even low height accents around larger taller plantings. Foliage is dense, bright green, and is arranged at a 45 degree angle from the bottom & center of the plant. Very versatile and very hardy, and undemanding.
This juniper variety also has good winter color interest, with the bulk of the outer foliage displaying an interesting purplish bronze coloration. Winter coloration dissipates, and returns to the normal green color as temperatures moderate in spring.
Andorra Compacta requires no shearing to maintain its nice, neat shape - however an annual light pruning around the edges of this plant will help to ensure that the center of the plant remains at its fullest, especially in warmer climates.
