This is a stunning and unusual brooch or pin of an African tribal warrior face. The circular sculpted face brooch is embellished all around the face with a raised beaded trim that adds to the depth and dimension of the piece. It has highly detailed facial features; the eyes, eyebrows, nose and the teeth in the mouth are quite distinctive. Many Anthropologists believe that the round shape of African masks may symbolize the moon at festivals. It measures approximately 2 ¾ inches wide and just less than 2 ½ inches tall. It is unmarked, but shows a high level of craftsmanship. One of the pictures shows the similarity in style to various actual ceremonial masks.
It is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. It has a lovely shine to it. There is a secure safety clasp on the back. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.
