This is a very unusual vintage bird in flight brooch or pin. It is made of metal, but the front of the bird is painted in a colored design and then coated or accented with an applied textured rough finish, that feels like fine sugar or sand with reflective little granules. I believe these are called Sugar Beads. I've never seen one quite like it before. The brooch is put together in sections, the front wing and body is a separate piece from the back wing. The front body is 3 dimensional, raised and attached to the back metal by clasps.

It is in very good condition with some wear only to the gold finish on the back and on the safety clasp pin. There is no finish loss on the front and it is gorgeous. It measures 1 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/2 inches tall. I have taken enlarged pictures so you can see the detail for yourself. I have no idea what type of bird it is meant to be. Obviously a larger bird that makes me think of a flying seabird.

This would make a great addition to your collection of vintage figural jewelry or as a special gift for your favorite bird lover, bird watcher, naturalist or Ornithologist.
