Mexico Pin Brooch Aztec Warrior Design Mixed Metales Vintage
Artist Signed Modernist Design
Marriage of the Metals
Silver Copper Brass
Ethnic Figure
Black Onyx or Ebony Wood

This is a gorgeous vintage Mexico Metales brooch or pin. It is done in three (3) mixed metals, Brass, Copper and Silver with an Aztec or Mayon Warrior facing some type of animal and tied to a cloud above. The Warrior design is in black (which is either Black Onyx or Black Ebony). The reverse is signed Metales Mexico, with the the signature GAL in the center. This technique is called "Metales”, or marriage of the metals and sometimes called Metales Casados and it takes amazing skill to create a piece like this. The brooch is like a sandwich with the center of the pin done in the black and layered on top and bottom with a thin silver layer. I believe that the figure on the front has been carved out from the metal so that the black inner section shows through.

This is a beautiful piece with a modernist geometric Aztec design. It is in very good vintage condition as you can see by the pictures, with a nice warm patina and some natural tarnish from age (mostly on the black edges of the cut-out). It measures 1 1/2 inches in length and is 1 1/4 inches tall. It weighs .4 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 11.3 grams. The pinback has a secure rollover clasp. I have not cleaned or polished the piece, I know some people prefer the older patina so I will leave that up to you.

This is an amazing Mexican treasure with vibrant colors and a bold design that would make an excellent addition to your collection of jewelry. It has a wonderful strong presence and it is a piece that will draw comments and be a conversation starter when worn.
