Lotus Position Seated
India Gold Red Paint

Book Piece

I believe this is an unsigned Selro Asian Hindu Goddess brooch. I have read that It was normal for this company to produce unsigned jewelry, but since it is unsigned I can’t state for sure that this is the designer. The beautiful three dimensional black molded glass cabochon head has a gold painted headdress and accented lips and eyes in red and white paint. It is set in a heavy gold toned metal, which I think is gilded brass. The magnificent six-armed goddess sitting in a lotus position is meant to be Kali or Lakshmi, a Hindu goddess or princess.  All six arms are stretched out. It measures approximately 1 ½ inches tall and 1 3/16 inches at the widest point. This is most likely from the 1950s. This brooch is featured in Kathy Flood’s book “The Jewelry Face Book of Pins & Pendants: Vintage Visages”.

The brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The pin is tight and stays securely in the safety clasp. The pin has an antiqued finish which gives it depth and brings out the delicate craftsmanship of the piece. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This is an unusual and beautiful brooch and is sure to be a conversation piece. It would be stunning with a little black dress for a special occasion, or with your favorite pair of jeans. It will be a fine addition to your collection of figural jewelry.
