This is a stunning hand-crafted Blister Pearl Shell brooch or pin. It has a lovely freeform setting in Sterling Silver and is signed by the artist. The back is marked STERLING/DEPP. Blister Pearls are formed by intentionally implanting a “nucleus” between the shell of the oyster instead of in its tissue. The pearl then develops as a “blister” against the inner shell. The pearl is left attached to the shell backing and cut out and polished. The shell is often shaped into freeform designs that show the inner shell and the pearl. This shell has colors that change with the light. This is a large brooch that measures approximately 2 ½ inches by 2 inches and weighs .80 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 22.68 grams. You can see the size next to the quarter in the photos.

It is in great condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The shell does have some natural surface irregularities and there is dried glue which has yellowed from age on the back, where the silver was attached to the pearl. It has a secure safety clasp. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This is a stylish one of a kind brooch to wear with that little black dress or with your favorite pair of jeans. It will make a great addition to your collection of artisan hand crafted jewelry. You could easily wear this as a pendant on a silver chain by looping the chain through the various twists of the sterling near the clasp.
