Vintage Swan Goose Bird Weathervane Replica Brooch Pin Seodra Pewter
Figural Bird Casting
Antique Weather Vane Copy Folk Art
Made in United States
Jewelry of the Ages
Snake Like Egyptian Style

This is a vintage pewter cast brooch made by Seodra Pewter. Seodra (pronounced Shodra) is an archaic Gaelic word meaning jewelry.  Seodra created pewter jewelry that represented jewelry of the ages. This brooch is unmarked and I do not have the original paperwork that told about the history. It is a replica of an early 20th Century Folk Art American swan or hissing goose weathervane. It measures approximately 3 ¾ inches long and 1 ¼ inches tall. It has a textured surface with little dots and dimples. The face and neck of the goose has a snake-like appearance, almost Egyptian in style. It is quite striking and unusual.

I did find a similar one that had been sold on the Internet that had the original card with it. The card the pin was attached to read, “Pin inspired by an early American weathervane design. One of the most widespread forms of American folk art, the bold horizontal designs of most weathervanes derives from their function…an extremely important one in the days before modern communications and weather forecasting.

It is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

The brooch would make a great addition to your collection of figural and wearable art. It is perfect for any bird lover, and it was made in the United States. It would make a perfect accessory on a hat or a lapel. It is also very collectible since it also represents a piece of American History as a weathervane replica. It would be a great stocking stuffer for any antique dealer who collects weathervanes.
