This is a whimsical and adorable sheep or lamb brooch/pin that was made using applied pieces of porcelain. All of the details are etched in by hand while the clay is soft and then the piece is fired at a low temperature and then again at a high temperature to finish. The brooch is signed and stamped with the artist’s name and copyright date.  It is signed on the back either © 1981 or © 1991 (I can’t tell on the 3rd number) J. Holdsworth.

Jude was a well-known sculpturer and painter of Southwest and Native American art. She had her work featured at galleries throughout the country during the 1980s and 1990s. She retired and stopped making pottery pieces in the mid-1990s and passed away in 2013. She is known most for her trinket boxes and vases, her jewelry pieces are rare.

This unique brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The glue on the back where the pin was attached has turned orange from age. There are some tiny imperfections, normal for a hand fired piece. Please look at all the photos as they are part of the description and show the details much better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for anyone’s collection of figural handcrafted artisan jewelry. If you are a fan of sheep and farm animals, this is for you.
