This is a stunning wearable art piece made by the designer Cathleen Mclain. She creates one-of-a-kind art jewelry in sterling silver and/or married metals (bronze, brass and copper) and semiprecious stones and artglass. This large handwrought sterling silver and married metals brooch is set with a genuine geode and what look to be two opal cabochons set into sterling bezels. The prongs that hold the geode in place look like little snakes. It is signed by the artist “McLain” on the reverse in engraved script. It measures approximately 4 inches by 2 ½ inches. I’m sure this could easily be converted into a pendant for a necklace if you wanted. It can also be worn in any direction you choose to place it. It could easily represent an abstract fish or a seahorse.

This spectacular brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. I have not polished it as many people prefer the patina that only comes with age. Depending on your own taste, I will leave any polishing up to you; you can keep it in the same condition with its original patina or polish it. There is light tarnishing and scuffing to the silver. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for anyone who loves hand crafted jewelry. This is a very large brooch and I would recommend only wearing it on heavier material.
