This is a wonderful carved face set in a sterling silver frame or bezel. The brooch is most likely from Mexico or one of the South American countries. I have no idea what the face is made of, I did take it to the jeweler and he could not identify the stone without removing it from the setting. He thought it could be carved bovine bone (possibly ox) or Tagua. It is marked on the back “Sterling”. It measures approximately 1 ¼ inches tall and 1 inch wide. It weighs .30 ounces on my postage scale, which converts to 8.50 grams.

It is in great vintage condition as you can see from the many enlarged photographs. I have not polished the silver as it has a nice patina. I know that many people prefer the patina that comes with age; I will leave any polishing up to you. The brooch does show imperfections, this mask was hand carved. The rollover pin back is in good working condition. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

It would make an addition to your collection of vintage figural hand crafted jewelry.
