The brooch features a flower that looks like a Poinsettia done in red enamel with gold, green, white accents on a black background. This brooch measures approximately 2 ¼ inches long and is 1 ½ inches wide. There is a paper insert with the brooch which reads “The origin of enameling art is of great antiquity. The word of Cloisonné is French origin. The Japanese word for Cloisonné is ‘Shippo’ or Seven Treasured Ware. It is the name of the Sanskrit ‘Sutra Ratha’ or emerald, agate, coral, crystal, and pearl. The original was done by in-laying with the above precious treasures.” There is also a small tag that was attached that reads “Komatsu Store”. And a small black and gold sticker with Japanese symbols and “Elite”. In Japan Cloisonné enamels are known as shippo-yaki. It comes in the original box with Japanese lettering on top and a card that reads “Sukiyabashi Hankyu” with purple flowers on it. The wood box is lightweight, like Balsa Wood. The name Hankyu comes from a combination of the Chinese characters for Osaka, which can be read as ‘Han’ and the word ‘Kyu’ which means express. Between 1953 and 1959 Hankyu Department Stores opened three stores: Tokyo Oi in 1953, Sukiyabashi Hankyu in Ginza in 1956 and in the U.S. , Los Angeles Hankyu in 1967. The Sukiyabashi store was renamed in 2004 to Mosaic Ginza Hankyu.

This brooch is in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The roll over clasp closure works fine and is secure. I'm not sure what the metal is, but my guess is copper with a black enamel finish. A magnet does not stick to it. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe.

This would be perfect for anyone who loves handcrafted jewelry; it is a wonderful treasure to add to your collection. This would look stunning on that little black dress for an elegant evening out.
