A small tree in the Rubiaceae family (and thus related to coffee, gardenia or noni) from rainforests in northwestern Colombia that produces large, round fruits that are reddish when ripe, up to 1 kg (over 2 lb.) in weight and filled with a soft, red pulp that is used in the preparation of jams, juices, desserts and an alcoholic beverage. It is also said to have aphrodisiac properties and high levels of antioxidants as well as all sorts of other healthy ingredients, which is why in the US it is now marketed as a dietary supplement, dried and in capsules for convenience
