1986 Signed Original Latin American Caribbean Cityscape Landmark Painting IGLESIA DE SANTA BARBARA / CHURCH OF SANTA BARBARA SANTO DOMINGO DOMINICAN REPUBLIC By Carlos Hidalgo Painting is in great condition as displayed in the photo gallery. There are no rips or holes in canvas. Frame measures 40 by 50 inches. Its definitely a stunner with bright vivid color. Carlos Hidalgo Biography of Carlos Hidalgo He was born on June 14, 1948, in Santiago Rodríguez. He studied Fine Arts at the National School of Fine Arts with professors Pedro García de Villena, Marianela Jimenez, Gaspar Mario Cruz, Ada Balcacer, Lepe, Gilberto Hernandez Ortega, and Guillo Perez. His first participation in a group exhibition was in 1969 at the Galería del Centro de Arte. That same year, he won a prize in the student competition organized by the Friordano Group at the Madre y Maestra Catholic University in Santiago de los Caballeros. In 1975, he held his first solo exhibition at Galería 7. That year, he also created a mural alluding to the discovery of America ("Encounter of Two Cultures"), as well as several works for the National Museum of History. Among them was a mural of Juan Pablo Duarte (portrait). He has participated in several collective exhibitions, Biennials and competitions held in the country, such as the IX and X Santo Domingo Plastic Arts Biennials. His works are found in private collections in the country and abroad. His second solo exhibition was presented on January 19, 1984 at the Nader Art Gallery. The main collective exhibitions in which he has participated are: "Faces" at the Nidia Serra Art Center, Popular Collective organized by the University Cultural Movement, Collective Expo of the UASD, at Casa de Teatro in 1977, Dominican Painters in Panama in 1976, Expo-Tribute to Orlando at the Giotto Gallery, Expo-Young Painting in 1976, organized by the National Tourism Directorate, Historical Vision of Dominican Plastic Arts at the Banco de Reservas, Collective Expo at the Sheraton Hotel, at the Nader Gallery, Collective Expo of the Patronato Pro-Maternidad Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia and at the Modern Art Gallery in 1983. In 1969, he received the 1st Prize from the DN City Council In 1970, he received the 2nd Prize in the Friordano Competition at the Madre y Maestra Catholic University. In 1975, he participated in a collective exhibition "Young Painters" at the offices of the State Secretariat of Tourism of the Dominican Republic. In 1998, he participated in the Collective Exhibition of Latin American Painters, at the El Meson del Arte Gallery, together with Gilberto Hernandez Ortega, Wilfredo Lam, Eligio Pichardo, Joaquín Torres García, Jaime Colson and Juan Bosch (sculpture), among others. The works of this renowned Dominican painter have been chosen by collectors from Germany, France, Italy, Switzerland, Brazil, Japan, China, the United States, and others.
