He started in Copenhagen as a sculptor and goldsmith working his way into silversmithing. He was the first to blur lines between artistry and craftsmanship with his ornamental design in the early 1900's. In 1904 her opened his first shop and quickly gained a following, with those stating he "never followed fashion, he created it". In 1918 he opened a much larger shop and when he passed in 1935 he already had an international reputation for superb craftsmanship.
