I have listed an original oil painting of a beautiful winter scene. Trouble is, I don’t know the artist, and cannot determine much about the painting. Can anyone help with artist name, name of the work, time period, etc… It is the first listing in my booth. Tried to copy/paste the signature, but couldn’t do it. Hope this doesn’t get me in trouble!

That is a Russian Cossack Lambswood Hat he has on so you may be looking at a Russian Artist. I couldn’t read it either but if you don’t get any info on here you might try Sending name to Ask Art or Posting to Collectors Weekly (Google it) They have a mystery item place to post items for help.
I think Lynne may be correct as well and I was also thinking Polish too. Many of the Russian Jews migrated to Poland. I agree hard to date a piece without seeing the actual paint and how framed etc. But it does appear to be a very well done piece.I see that Michael Borbely may be a listed artist he has items that have sold in auctions in europe Horse Painting sold in Germany and there is a picture of his of Stag Elk on ebay listed. Nice price too check it out. If you google you will see other pictures of the same scene as yours. Also one with sheep (that I LOVE) Collect them. AWE darn.. I think you have a winner there. I believe Borbely is a Hungarian name. Same baltic state area. Looks like most of those were painted in the 60’s. Wonder if he is still painting? Yetta

Thank you Yetta. My first instinct was that it was Russian as well. Any guess as to the year?
Well, now a friend tells me that this is an artist named Michael Borbely. Still have no true idea of its value, but now i can pursue that and the year it was done. Thanks for your participation! :)

Hi, I’m pretty sure this is Polish. I did a search on antique farm wells and the image I found of the same kind of well as in your picture was polish. The Russian wells had the roof over top and dropped the bucket in with a pulley system.
I also felt the scene was more polish. As to age, can you photo the back or describe it. Is it on stretchers. How old does the wood look like. I doubt this is a period piece. It seems to be depicting a scene from the late 1800s but for some reason I feel the painting was done in the 1950s. I’m no painting expert for sure and you probably need to take it to an art appraiser of see if you can find a site with artist names. I will say the horses seem to be done very well. Hard to tell without seeing lots of closeups but I think it’s a beautiful picture.
Good luck with getting your identity, please let us know if you have any luck!
