Accepting Stripe -

I was really surprised to see that Stripe is only available for gold memberships and higher. I would think that by allowing all sellers to be able to use Stripe, just like Paypal, that this could bump up sales for many sellers (even if just a little), benefiting not only the sellers but the Bonanza site itself. The way it is right now, If I want Stripe I have to pay for it in a sense by purchasing a gold membership or higher.

Does anyone know if by Bonanza allowing sellers to use Stripe on the Bonanza site, does this cause more work for Bonanza on their end. I’m just trying to figure out why this would only be available for gold memberships and beyond.

I wonder if a shopper on Bonanza is more likely to buy something using a way to directly check out with their credit card as opposed to if a seller only offers Paypal.

I don’t know.

After we were no longer able to offer a customer a way to chekcout directly using their credit card, did you all see a decline in sales by any chance…a big decline or a little decline or what have you? Wondering if maybe this would be worth it if it makes a big enough difference.

I have sold on Etsy in the past and cannot remember if direct checkout on there was used more than say, paypal, for example.

Sorry, I’m just trying to figure this out and not sure why we’d have to have a gold membership and higher in order to make Stripe available for customers.

Thanks,

Sharon

[URL removed] I’ve given some thought to the next higher membership after gold. This was prior to Stripe coming along, too, except that the only way I would buy it is if it was the same price each month as if I was paying for yearly all at one time. The monthly price by itself is too high, yearly I think is reasonable. I’ll never be able to get it for the better price though because I cannot afford to pay for it when the cost is due all at once. I wish there were some more options….like paying for 6 months instead of having to pay for a full year.

Hmmm, Bonanza, do you think you could give some wiggle room on gold and higher so that sellers do not have to pay for a full year in advance in order to get a better monthly price?

Interesting Idea, since 2006 we have used paypal business-(But not with Bonanza yet)- which allows us to give the customer the ability to choose CC or Paypal.. Have never looked at Stripe :)

I have heard good things about Stripe :)

I had stripe, I immediately started getting spam messages that there were checks waiting for me and a bunch of other weird messages, I removed it from my site, it was getting to be way too much with the messages.

TrinketBox says: August 16, 2018

I signed for stripe for my website, but have yet to integrate into the system…since paypal does allow CC have not had too many (only 1 actually) balk to use PP.. We talked on the phone and she eventually used PP to get the items.

ccmom says: August 16, 2018

however, did not know that it was added here for gold memberships…I still have Amazon Pay integrated…since those who had it before they were dropped were allowed to keep it..at least for now

abigdogmom says: August 16, 2018

When direct checkout was available every item I sold was paid by that method. And, I am not very happy about the way Bonanza is implementing Stripe. Feels like coercion to get a membership.

Thanks for sharing you all.

Arizona4Granny says: August 20, 2018

well i do not see why it is just offered to Gold members and above EXCEPT to force people to pay for a membership..if my sales were good enough to pay for a membership it would be different…seems to me anything that helps sellers sell would benefit Bonanza overall not just the ones who have

Arizona4Granny says: August 20, 2018

memberships…unless they are getting more exposure than the ones with no membership

I’ve been checking out Ayden that ebay is introducing, it actually does not seem that bad.

I hope the introduction of Stripe payment processing for Gold Members is a first step towards making direct checkout by credit and debit card for buyers available to all sellers at an affordable rate. Where this has been available on other sites we sell on, including our own web site, this has quickly led to a switch from buyers paying solely by Paypal to using a credit card processor like Stripe. Younger buyers in particular prefer to pay this way, far fewer of them have a Paypal account or wish to transact through it. The results have been transformational – from all payments through Paypal to 80-95% percent of payments being made through Stripe or other credit card processor. Moreover, this has typically been marked with a significant surge in sales growth, suggesting that prior to the change there is a good degree of suppressed demand because buyers found their preferred means of paying was unavailable to them. This might well account for some share of the abandoned cart phenomenon. But great first move on introducing Stripe. Looking forward to its later expanded availability on Bonanza at a more affordable rate relative to sales volume & fees.

I hope that you are right PostcardDepot. You have a way with words, very well spoken.

I’m sort of thinking/hoping that Bonanza will eventually roll this out for all sellers seeing as how it would benefit everyone.

You may get spammed, i had to contact Stripe and they told me it was spam, everyday weird message’s that i had large checks or other messages. And these started right away like the next day after i got it! never again!

EmpressDepot says: August 17, 2018

This is good to know, Sparkles.

ThePostcardDepot says: August 20, 2018

Thanks, EmpressDepot! Yes, reading today’s blog post (Aug. 20th) it seems Bonanza will eventually roll Stripe out for all sellers in the future. As for the concern about spam associated with Stripe membership, we’ve not seen that related to either one of our Stripe accounts over recent years.

We introduced stripe as another option, to buyers on our website earlier this week (thanks to Empress Depot). The addition has been welcome already just in the past few days, for our buyers on the website. Really glad that Bonanza stepped up to the plate on this one. One thing we noticed in the last 48 hours is the use of Wallets such as

Amex Express Checkout
Apple Pay
Google Pay
Microsoft Pay
Masterpass by Mastercard
Visa Checkout

With these payout features working well on our website, I can just imagine how well they will work for Bonanza and the Gold members. Just saying

Very interesting. Did you add Stripe to your own website or was it Bonanza? If so, this is excellent news.

EmpressDepot says: August 17, 2018

Oops, I think I may have read your post wrong and that you have not yet added it to Bonanza. Regardless, I’m really glad for your sales and I think this shows that there is a really good possibility it can increase sales on Bonanza

I understand why the need for being a gold member. Bonanza is likely taking a risk because Stripe’s marketplace policies can hold marketplaces liable for high risk transactions. Usually you won’t be high risk if you pay monthly.

It would be really nice if Bonanza would setup the ability to pay through Apple Pay on Stripe. They would have to manually insert the code for us though since we are unable to do it even on webstores.

Okay. This makes great sense then. Thank you very much for sharing.

gravityvideo says: August 18, 2018

Wow, had 2 of my 4 sales today as Stripe payments. That was fast.

gravityvideo says: August 18, 2018

Make that 3 of 6 sales…

EmpressDepot says: August 18, 2018

Very cool. I’m glad you are posting about this. It makes me want to get a membership. Feel free to post about them again lol. Seriously though, it will help to let me know how much of a difference it will make.

EmpressDepot says: August 18, 2018

Six sales today…you are rock n’ and rolling.

gravityvideo says: August 19, 2018

Six orders so far with Stripe for $183.27. Apparently the Master Pay, AMEX checkout, and Visa checkout are all enabled with Stripe so this is a big draw for new customers. All the orders probably came from Google Shopping as well so if you are listed in it you may want a 1 month test of gold

gravityvideo says: August 19, 2018

Clarification… your Visa, AMEX, Master Pay, Google Pay, Samsung pay apps will pre-fill your card info into the payment I believe at checkout. I am checking on it with a customer who used it since I don’t use those.

EmpressDepot says: August 19, 2018

I already used up my free trial a little while back. But I had to put my booth on vacation during the free trial and then it did not let me pick back up where I left off. I’m going to pay for a one month gold membership some time this week. I think that even though Paypal can be used for credit…

EmpressDepot says: August 19, 2018

card checkout, not everyone wants to use it. Buyers could email us but in today’s time many people will just move onto the next seller due to speed. It’s an opinion but I think one worth thinking about.

Stripe being offered here is news to me (but I wont get a membership just to be able to use it). Wonder how long this has been around and why Bonz never announces enhanced features that were not around when we first started up here.

Until recently, I never even knew that we could list items with 12 pics as I have been rolling with the 6 pictures max all along. Why as sellers are we being kept in the dark about new things that benefit sales? Where are you able to find out about new changes that I am not privy to? Is this too a membership secret benefit?

Thanks for your input atomic. The info on Stripe is on our Seller Dashboard page, near the top. Right now it has got a blue star beside it.

TrinketBox says: August 17, 2018

TrinketBox says: August 17, 2018

on our old My Bonanza Page there used to be the “What’s New” link..haven’t seen that link for a while…wonder if it still exists

ccmom says: August 17, 2018

Found the What’s New..right at the top of the Account Dashboard page, but I have never noticed it much lately as having anything new announcements

EmpressDepot says: August 17, 2018

Hi Cindy. I went under account dashboard and the weird thing is that mine says “Great job! You’re all caught up.” Does yours say this?

ccmom says: August 18, 2018

Good morning visitors of my page! I did not believe in therapy for a long time, but my psychologist has been nothing but professional, patient and very kind while I start my journey with him. Messaging is very needful as is the video conferencing and my smart therapist been very accommodative to my health issues and time restrictions because of them. I am searching forward to online therapy [URL removed] with my best psychologist and achieving further not so simple goals.
