Paypal requirements and bonanza paypal requirements in a bit of a conflict?

So, I’m new here and was going to set up my payment settings when I noticed the special note under PayPal stating I need for my PayPal account to be “premier” in order to receive payments as a seller (presumably do to credit card transactions), but then I have read on Paypal support the restriction against accepting credit card payments on “personal” accounts was done away with a few years back…

So do I still need to upgrade to premier? If so, why?

Thanks for any insight.

though I do not know for sure..but I believe it has to do with the limits on a personal account and the fact that Pay pal now has to report yearly sales of $20,000 and 200 transactions per year from online sales..

I could be wrong…but I believe that is the way it was presented 2 years ago when those with personal accounts had to upgrade..

Upgrading to premier is simple..just attach a credit card/bank account to the account…

[URL removed] It has been so long ago that I don’t remember all the details but here is the information on premier/business accounts from paypal

But please note this was a paypal requirement not a bonanza requirement

I’m more confused now. I suppose this new tax law does not apply to personal accounts is the reason for requiring premier on Bonanza?

So with premier accounts you need a credit card or bank tied to PayPal?

Well, I already use my bank issued card and it is attached to my current personal account. At brick and mortar stores you can use such a card as “credit”, so why would that be insufficient on PayPal?

It can be a debit or credit card. I have a debit card linked to my Premier account and it works just fine. When you upgrade to a Premier account you have to attach a debit/credit card and a bank account in order to lift your receiving limits. It’s very simple to do, and once you click to upgrade, PayPal will walk you through the steps.

As long as your bank-issued card is a debit card with a VISA or Mastercard logo, etc., that is fine with PayPal.

Yes, you’ll want to upgrade to a premier.

*Here is how Paypal explains the different types of [URL removed]

[URL removed] Recommended for individuals who shop and pay online, or wish to send or receive personal payments for shared expenses such as splitting of dinner bills or rental charges.

[URL removed] Recommended for casual sellers or non-businesses who wish to get paid online, and who also make online purchases.

[URL removed] Recommended for merchants who operate under a company/group name. It offers additional features such as allowing up to 200 employees limited access to your account and customer service email alias for customer issues to be routed for faster follow-ups.

So those are the differences based on what Paypal says. All PayPal accounts allow you to send and receive payments. In looking at the Personal account type, you can see how it is much more geared toward the shopper aspect. Plus I believe there is a limit dollar wise on what someone can receive into their account like ccmom said.

*Here is what I found when making a search in Bonanza’s Help [URL removed]

“If you’ve checked the Paypal box (Edit booth options → Payments & purchases), people will be able to buy your items directly. They will be told to send payment to the Paypal address you specified while creating your booth. The money is transferred to your account by the magic of the Internet when the buyer completes the checkout process.

[URL removed] You will need a Premier or Business Paypal account in order to receive payments as a seller."

Me talking now………I wish I could offer more help on a Premier account. I am a Business account. I do not think there is too much of a difference though. The one difference that I know of is that for the Business account Paypal has to have the name of your business, not just your personal name.

You [URL removed] “I’m more confused now. I suppose this new tax law does not apply to personal accounts is the reason for requiring premier on Bonanza?”

Bonanza requiring this was after the fact of Paypal and I’m not exactly sure when Paypal made a rule of this.

You [URL removed] “So with premier accounts you need a credit card or bank tied to PayPal?”

Yes. You probably will have to verify your account, too, and Paypal will have limits on your Paypal account until your account is verified. I think verification consists of Paypal making a small deposit into your bank account and you logging into Paypal to tell them the amount of the deposit…This is a normal process. It all sounds like a lot right now but it will be a breeze once you get going.

Welcome to Bonanza.

I was a PayPal member before they expanded the service into three types of accounts, and the way they sold me on upgrading to Premier was by limiting the quantity and dollar amounts of payments I could receive as a basic account member. At the time, unless you upgraded, you could only receive a maximum of $100 in payments every few months, and all others above the limit would be refused. Not sure if that is still the case today.

I only have a debit card attached to my PayPal, no bank account. And I am a premier member! And I use my personal account for Bonanza!

Even if you don’t sell $20,000. per year. If over $600.00 you have to claim that on your taxes. And should be lic. have a resale ID and collect sales tax. If this is a business or a hobby that generates an income requires
this. Paypal saying different is only to benefit them in fees. Look what your state laws are. PayPal is a payment service.
They are not responsible for anyone’s lack of operating a business.
They just have to report sales over $20,000. This does not mean you are not responsible for the D.B.A. law in your ow state.

I don’t make these rules – Just saying…
