Can i ask buyers to contact me for shipping quotes

[URL removed]

Canadian seller and there is no way to offer calculated shipping with the current system when shipping from Canada. There is just too much variability in pricing especially within Canada on larger items. Am I ok with not using any listed shipping and just have potential buyers contact me for a shipping quote?

This link from a older forum question might be of help to you https://www.bonanza.com/community_help/How_do_you_set_up_shipping_if_you_are_from_Canada_

have been an online seller for over 17 years on several different venues and have never used calculated shipping. I use flat rate shipping, and never had a problem. I have gained a wealth of knowledge about shipping & shipping costs over the years and have applied this to my wide variety of items. I partially pre-package any item I am not sure about, weigh, measure & get shipping costs according to a postal code that I use that gives me an average of costs. Whenever there is a significant difference in S & H costs, the buyer is refunded the overage. This method works well for me and there have been no problems.
You may find potential buyers reluctant to contact you for shipping costs, but on the other hand if a potential buyer is seriously interested in an item, most likely would contact you for those costs.

You might want to post another thread..asking Canadian sellers how they handle the shipping..

There have been Canadian sellers on bonz almost from the beginning and have had plenty of time to work out how to set up shipping..

selah51 is one who has 6 booths and has been here since about [phone number removed]..here is here profile with links to her booths and you can see how she handles shipping for her different items

Thanks for the reply. In my case the items are typically heavier than 1Kg which varies the shipping price quite a bit in Canada/US depending on location. Under 1kg I can pretty much offer flat rate to the US as it’s pretty consistent across, but again in Canada it can vary quite a bit.

As you suggest if someone really wants it they will ask, downside is many will possibly just move on.

Really wish Bonanza would add Canada Post calculated shipping, but I suspect Canadian sellers don’t make up a significant membership.

I had the same question coming here. I agree, for new sellers with not enough experience in shipping should have better options. I was really confused and came here for the same reason. Thanks for all the helpful comments.
