Heads up: Identifier_exists false attribute not applying automatically

Hello (please see my edit near the bottom of this post).

I wanted to give a heads up that the identifier_exists false attribute is not automatically being applied when saving the listing like it normally does, not sure if it is permanent or a glitch at this time or even if it is happening to everyone. I did email into support, so will post back about this when I hear back.

For some recent listings, Bonanza’s automatic feed update showed I had 3 listings that were denied by Google shopping due to missing a upc. These 3 are new and are sealed but there truly is not a upc for them.

For old listings, this attribute is still applied as when first listed, so good on that.

I was able to go in an manually apply the attribute.

For those wondering on how to format the identifier exists false attribute, you do it like [URL removed]

[[identifier_[URL removed]

I’d rather delete this post but since I cannot I will edit to [URL removed]

It has come to my understanding by Cindy and when taking a closer look at one of my listings that when a listing is new and there is no upc, Bonanza DOES NOT automatically add the identifier exists false attribute. So, we have to manually add it.

Whereas with used listings and no upc, Bonanza DOES automatically add the identifier exists false attribute.

do not think it is a glitch as new items are expected to have upc’s so you will do as you did in those cases it does not, manually enter the ‘false’ attribute

EmpressDepot says: March 11, 2018

On my end the false attribute has always been added automatically when there is no UPC even for new.

EmpressDepot says: March 11, 2018

Most of the time with the false attribute added for new with no UPC Google accepts it. Every so often GS is a PITA about it :)

EmpressDepot says: March 11, 2018

You know what, you are right. I just found a listing that I knew did not have a UPC even though it is new. Always automatically assumed Bonanza had applied the false attribute in these instances since they have in others. Apparently this listing never got rejected even though marked as new & no upc.

Wish I could delete this thread now.

LuLusFancy says: March 12, 2018

I’m actually very glad you started this thread, because I think I finally understand that if we sell a new item with no UPC code, we need to enter this phrase [[identifier_[URL removed] into the space where a UPC code would have gone. True?

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

Hello. Entering in the false attribute only tells Google shopping you have no UPC for your item, whether the item be used or new. If Bonanza has it showing up as used due to marking new without tag, then Google shopping will still have it show up as used, regardless.

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

If you need to enter in the identifier_[URL removed] attribute, you will only be able to apply this to your listings two different ways. One would be under Batch edit. Find your listing you want to apply this to. click on Search optimize in batch edit. You’ll then see a box area at the top where you.

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

can add the false attribute (make sure to only check the listing that you want to apply this to).

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

The other way is to apply it to the bottom of your description while you are in the edit mode within your lsiting. You do it like [URL removed]

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

Scroll to the bottom. At the end of your last sentence click the enter key. Then type [URL removed] [[identifier_[URL removed] then save the listing. When you look at this same listing again what you typed in at the bottom will have disappeared. Then to see that you actually applied this attribute to the..

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

listing, go into Batch edit, bring up your listing that you applied it to, click search optimize and it should be there as an additional attribute as long as you did formatted the attribute right.

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

Like said though, for used listings with no UPC, Bonanza will automatically apply the attribute. I hope this makes sense. If it does not, just email me and I’ll have more room to see what I am typing and explain :)

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

Lulu, I’m still going to go ahead and email you this weekend (hubby finally got home from being out of town) to talk with you more about the false attribute unless you let me know you do not need for me to :)

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

I should mention here for others, that if an item is new and it did originally have a UPC, we are not supposed to use the false attribute in place of being able to find the UPC. We are supposed to research and find it as there will be other sellers selling the same exact item that have the UPC and

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

So Google shopping will be able to eventually tell that the item listed as being new with the false attribute is incorrect. For listings that are vintage (supposedly 20 years or older) and there is no UPC, GS says we do not have to have the UPC and the false attribute can be added. But I’m…

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

personally starting to think that GS is getting away from this idea. Better to have the UPC regardless of the age for an item.

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

In your situation though, Lulu, even though your hats are new and originally came with a UPC on the tag, your hats are altered so having the original UPC would not apply to your listings I do not believe. Use your booth name as you have been for the brand. In my case my items were new but they…

EmpressDepot says: March 13, 2018

were originally a part of a kit. So, truly the original UPC does not apply to these since the kit is no longer what it was when originally sold. We really need a good discussion on attributes here in the forums.

Thank you for all of this info, Empress! I truly am more enlightened about this now and will act accordingly when listing. I’m on a work trip in MS atm, so limited abilities to edit listings, but will address this when I return home to my main system. :) Thanks again for all of your sharing! <3

U r welcome. Have fun on your trip.

I have one item with no UPC that has been coming back for a long time with that Google error. I have added in the attribute though, and it still came back on the last report.

I’ve checked that the attribute is formatted properly, and I changed the condition to used from new, but is IS new, old stock with no UPC. As new, someone might buy for a gift – used, maybe not.

I cannot stand it when that happens. I also have already had some listings where they are new, no UPC and the false attribute is already added. It does not happen every time but when there really is no UPC for something that is new one cannot give GS what there is not.

EmpressDepot says: March 11, 2018

An example of my new listings in my OP was for three Hallmark ornaments. Each one originally belonged in different Hallmark membership kits and so there is no UPC but the ornament are new and all sealed up.

Google can be such a pain to deal with. I will list a new something and use the UPC that is on the item. Yes, I type it in correctly but since there is a newer version of the same NEW item and it has a DIFFERENT UPC, Google monster wont recognize the UPC that is on my older new item. Google thinks everything is a perfect world and there is no dealing with it when it is not.

I never thought of this. Thanks for bringing this up.
