While incandescent bulbs are still a good rule for exterior lighting on the W123 the aging and poor output of the stock license plate lighting is an exception to that rule. These L.E.D. lens assemblies are completely modern, cost less than half of OE, include the 'lightbulb' and are 10x brighter. Fitment anomaly: I encountered a very early W123(pre-1980) in which the size of the opening where these are mounted was more narrow by about 1.5mm. If you have an early W123 you might need to work less than 1mm off of each side of the opening with a flat file. This area is completely hidden so it would have zero effect on cosmetics.
