Sowerby Victorian 'Old King Cole' Blue Milk Glass Trough Walter Crane 1232. victorian blue milk glass posy trough made by Sowerby. This piece appears in their 1882 catalogue as pattern number 1232 and features Old King Cole based on the illustrations of Walter Crane.
19th century English glass house Sowerby glass house patented a new kind of opaque colored glass called vitro-porcelain in 1876. In 1877, they began producing small decorative objects using this glass, including a number of objects decorated with characters taken directly from children's nursery rhyme books produced by Victorian artist Walter Crane. Collectors call this pictorial Sowerby glass the 'Nursery Rhyme' glass.
