Descripción del Artículo
This beautifully reconditioned retro wall clock was manufactured between 1937 and 1948 and was known as the “Garçon”—a nod to its sleek, refined design that embodied the elegance of its era. (“Garçon” means “waiter” in French.) When acquired, the red paint was in poor condition—peeling, faded, and poorly refinished at some point. Due to the clock’s age, it was identified as lead based. Fortunately, the metal body was free of dents, dings, rust, or other structural imperfections. The old finish was carefully removed and replaced with three coats of a rich red oil-based finish. The glass crystal is virtually scratch-free. The clock face shows some age-related wear, including discoloration around the red dot circle and slight yellowing of the original white background—not uncommon for its vintage. Unlike many of its contemporaries with noisy electric motors, this example has been upgraded to a quartz battery movement—eliminating the dangling electric cord and offering effortless placement in any room. The original hour and minute hands were adapted to fit a continuous-sweep mechanism for silent, tick-free operation The original time-setting knob has been preserved to maintain the clock’s period character, although it is no longer functional. For added convenience, a ribbon has been installed inside the movement: a gentle pull releases the battery for easy replacement. This vintage piece from America’s industrial era will add charm to any home décor. Ships from a smoke-free environment. Please see my other clocks listed for sale.
