Ammo Vest is nicely stenciled on both sides "BAG AMMUNITION M 2 A 1, D34951". This was a late war variant of the US Army M2 Ammunition Vest. The M2A1 Ammunition Vest has a Quick Release Shoulder Buckle Assembly. This allowed the wearer to quickly and easily remove the Ammunition Vest even if it was full of Ammunition or Mortar Rounds. The left side of the M2A1 has a strap and buckle assembly and the right side has a snap hook and ring. M2A1 Ammo Vest is all OD Green Canvas Web Material. Vest is in Excellent Condition and shows little usage. 100% complete with all components. I have had many of the WWII US Army M2 Ammunition Vests, but this is the first WWII US Army M2 A1 Ammunition Vest I have seen. Measures about 42" x 15 1/2" inches when fully opened and laid flat. The M2A1 was made in 1940. It is the 105mm towed howitzer, and after World War II, it was renamed the M101. The M2A1 was designed to replace the 75mm field gun and became the primary light artillery weapon for the U.S. Army during the war. 1940: The first prototypes of the M2A1 were produced in 1940, with mass production starting the same year. 1941: The M2A1 entered full production and service in 1941.
