Descripción del Artículo
Up for sale is this beautiful Hampton Butte petrified wood specimen with a deep bluish/green translucent formation. Hampton Butte, Oregon specimens are known worldwide for their beauty and variety of colorful shades. This piece measures about 5 inches wide by 3-1/2 inches deep by 3 inches tall and weighs 2 lbs 7 oz. The piece?s exterior shows ancient wood structures on one side with the translucent chalcedony on the other side.
During the Eocene epoch tiny four toed horses and rhinos roamed the plains of central Oregon. They grazed beside stands of ancient Redwood and Pine trees. In the nearby low-lying swamps alligators cruised around Bald Cypress trees. This was approximately 50 million years ago. During that very dramatic Geological period, nearby volcanoes erupted and some of the wood from those trees was permanently preserved as petrified wood. The preserving mineral was quartz one of nature's more durable gemstones.
The mineralized wood from Hampton Butte, Deschutes County, Central Oregon, USA is composed of agate and jasper. This piece has the appealing glazed desert varnish found in the most sought after specimens.
This piece would look great in your cabinet or on your desk.
