Only Mercedes dealers and authorized paint and body shops had these stencils. While a new car arrived at the dealership with hubcaps that matched the body color replacement hubcaps were stocked in bare metal. The dealer then painted them to order to match the customer's paint code. The great part about the genuine Mercedes stencils is they instantly mask off the entire hubcap for painting. There is no taping and cutting with a razor blade. This set is a major time saver. Do-overs are also effortless compared to re-taping the entire cap for each attempt. The OE stencils also let you go over it later with clear coat which most people skip because of the masking process. Another advantage of genuine stencils is you get the correct OEM appearance of Mercedes hubcaps. The paint on their hubcaps has a certain soft edge that cannot be reproduced by other methods.
