One of the strongest pieces in the group, the Rat shows beautiful ambered patina, excellent detailing, expressive features, and a crisp two-kanji artisan signature. The warm honey tone and darkened crevices are classic signs of true mid-century hand-carved beads. Constructed using the traditional laminated technique practiced by Japanese ojime workshops of the period, allowing for a strong, rounded form with deep, confident carving lines.
