About 7" x 9 1/4" studio printed photo made by F. Thirion of Etrechy, France who were known for postcard images. The studio logo is embossed at bottom right. There is a blue pen mark also at right, blue pens of this shade are used by graphic artists in the process of setting up pages for print and one of them got careless with his but it isn't bad. Also there is a small scratch on the face of the musician second from right, top row. There is very light general wear but as you can see it takes an image pretty decently. Very scarce reference photo. "My G.I. Back" was apparently a touring company of US Army soldiers, and realistically Bob Hope and Betty Grable couldn't be everywhere so the Army had to do something to provide for entertainment besides the same movies repeatedly. A short reference was found in the book "Our Fathers War" by Tom Walker (page 91) which does tell us this was in Europe. I had been puzzling over the title and the best I could come up with was that the wives and girlfriends and families wanted their soldiers back, but if you look at the graphic in the backdrop with the poor G.I. saddled with all that equipment to carry on the march it becomes apparent as "My Government Issue Back" meaning he could probably use a new one (back) but good luck ha ha. Ideal for historians of both the military and the musical theater.
