Descripción del Artículo
**GROWN ON OUR FARM HERE IN TENNESSEE**
** 5 WICKED PORCUPINE TOMATO SEEDS **
Solanum pyracanthum
"Porcupine Tomato
** A "Baby Porcupine" ...a cutie!
Porcupine Tomato is a showy annual to perennial species with greyish-green leaves, rich violet-blue flowers and nicely contrasting bright orange spines. Flowers are followed by small greenish fruits (not edible). It is native of sun-exposed sites from South-Western USA to Mexico. Easily grown in any rich, well drained soil in a sunny spot in the garden. Sow seeds in pots in spring at some 20C, transplant to the final spot after the last freezing nights from late spring to early summer.
Cool and scary! This eye-opening specimen plant from Madagascar is a member of the tomato family. It grows 3’-5’ tall with pretty, actually, blue-green leaves that have prominent orange spines down the mid ribs. The stems are covered with orange fuzz. Lavender flowers are borne in a cluster. It’s a tropical guy, and so unforgettable, it’s worth protecting during the winter.
