Signed in syllabics on belly (see photo, biography below) Body is polished, hair on bottom is scraped and rough as it should be; Front right foot damaged, right ear damaged; one side of white part is missing, end of other white part is missing, not unusual for a vintage piece.+ Measures 14" long x 8-1/2" tall x 5 wide Weight: 17 pounds BIOGRAPHY: Nuyaliaq Qimirpik from Kimmirut Alternate spelling: Newgaleak or Newjalea or Qimirqpik Date of figurine: 1980's-90's His son Pitseolak reports that his father loved caping and providing for the families and friends and loved to make crafts in his spare time. Nuyaliaq Qimirpik (1937 - 2007) was active/lived in Nunavut / Canada. Nuyaliaq Qimirpik is known for Inuit crafts and sculpture, Inuit genre figures, wildlife, mythology. Biography photo for Nuyaliaq Qimirpik A prominent Canadian Inuit crafter and sculptor, Nuyaliaq Qimirpik lived in Kimmirut (aka: Lake Harbour), Nunavut on the southwest shore of Baffin Island. His works have been exhibited widely in Canada and the USA, and they are in the permanent collections of many major Canadian museums. His styles could be described as Inuit Art and Surrealism.
