In less than five years Alexander had defeated
the mighty Persians. Alexander marched his troops victoriously into Babylon, with its gardens and walls, which according to legend were 300 foot high and wide enough to accommodate two chariots riding abreast, where Alexander died (assassinated--presumably poisoned) in 323 BC.
Silver Tetradrachm. 17.13g 25mm.
Corinth. Corinthia mint. Struck 310-290 BC.
Obverse: Head of Herakles right, wearing lion skin headdress.
Reverse: Zeus enthroned left, naked to waist, feet on foot stool, eagle in outstretched right hand, grounded scepter in left; dove flying left within wreath in left field; ? and cornucopia between struts of throne.
Extremely Rare~None on Wildwinds.com (largest database of Alexander coinage) and Only two listed on Pella Numismatics.org~ one in British Museum and one in Münzkabinett Berlin and just one of which is in comparable condition--see images, info., citings here (you will need to copy/paste link):
