The Museum of Desire: An Alex Delaware Novel Audio CD ? Unabridged, February 4, 2020
by Jonathan Kellerman (Author), John Rubinstein (Reader)
NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER ? Psychologist Alex Delaware and detective Milo Sturgis struggle to make sense of a seemingly inexplicable massacre in this electrifying psychological thriller from the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense.
LAPD Lieutenant Milo Sturgis has solved a lot of murder cases. On many of them?the ones he calls ?different??he taps the brain of brilliant psychologist Dr. Alex Delaware. But neither Alex nor Milo are prepared for what they find on an early morning call to a deserted mansion in Bel Air. This one?s beyond different. This is predation, premeditation, and cruelty on a whole new level.
Four people have been slaughtered and left displayed bizarrely and horrifically in a stretch limousine. Confounding the investigation, none of the victims seems to have any connection to any other, and a variety of methods have been used to dispatch them. As Alex and Milo make their way through blind alleys and mazes baited with misdirection, they encounter a crime so vicious that it stretches the definitions of evil.

After two books in which all the mystery-related (as opposed to ongoing series) characters were people you?d never, ever want to spend time with, I?m happy to report that the latest entry in Kellerman?s long-running Alex Delaware series has at least a few reasonably likeable people in it. To be sure, most either are minor characters or are only reported as likeable by others, because they?re already dead when the story starts?but it?s enough of an improvement that I?ll continue reading the series, which I was considering dropping.
As usual, psychologist Alex Delaware and his chow-hound police lieutenant friend, Milo Sturgis, unravel a bizarre murder through a series of interviews, peeling back layers of involvement and motivation like an onion. The murder has not merely one but four victims, very different from one another, peculiarly posed in a limousine that?s discovered in the driveway of a rented mansion on the morning after a wild party. Like all of Kellerman?s books, this is a page-turner, slipping smoothly from scene to scene and pulling the reader along. I recommend it to all Kellerman/Delaware fans, especially those who, like me, were disappointed in the last couple of books, and to fans of mysteries that depend more on personality than on gore or forensics.
