This is a rare WWI war effort frying pan. The ?Copper for Steel? drive encouraged the women who were left in the home front to bring copper to collection centers for military uses, they would receive one of these frying pans in exchange for their donation. This is a patriotic pan with a German soldier shaking the hand of a German woman in relief at the base of the handle. It is embossed around the diameter with "Der Deutschen frau opfersinn. Gab kopper fur das eisen hin. Im Weltkrieg 1916." which translates to "The German housewife's sacrifice. Copper for steel. In World War 1916.". The frying pan is approximately 10.75" wide (20" including handle) and is being sold as is in condition as shown in photos with original patina of wear, grime and surface corrosion.
