Descripción del Artículo

This is for a beautiful early piece by H.G. Aitken signed and dated lower right. This little gem of a painting shows a wonderful New York landscape from 1935. The mottled gold frame complements the artwork perfectly. This is one of those pieces that elevates a small space or office without needing to do anything else on your part except to hang it. Wiki: Harry G. Aitken(1867-1952) was a designer and head of the decorating department for the Onondaga Pottery Company(now Syracuse China). He spent 44 years there before retiring in 1946. Born in Trenton, New Jersey, Aitken spent five years learning pottery art under Walter S. Lenox of Lenox Fine China. He was then employed by Trenton China, Crescent Pottery, and finally Trenton Pottery before leaving to work for Onondaga Pottery in Syracuse, New York. His "Nature Study Series" are still produced today. Aitken also continued with his artistic studies and took lessons with John F. Carlson in Woodstock, New York and also with H. Leigh-Ross and Lester Stevens in Rockport, Massachusetts. Besides exhibiting his oils and watercolors at the Syracuse Museum of Art he also entered work in shows in New York, Philadelphia, Boston and Woodstock. In addition, he was known on the local art scene, becoming a member of the Printmakers Club and also the Associated Artists of Syracuse. Valuing his leisure time, the artist was noted as an avid fisherman and a "darn good baseball player." After a short illness Harry G. Aitken died at his home in Syracuse, New York on June 7, 1952. For those who are new to fine art note that all of the famous 'brand name' painters are just that, brand names. They have all been hyped to a great extent. Fine original paintings like this one are actually very affordable. This is what fine art actually costs. Over time it all increases in value so just buy what you like. The majority of original artwork like this painting were done by great old masters who aren't household names. The famous names are no better than anyone else and if the art world suddenly decided that the artist in this listing belonged in more museums then this piece would suddenly become priceless/unaffordable.
