Askina Calgitrol Paste is a sterile dressing material containing a matrix of silver ion alginate in the form of a paste, providing antimicrobial action and protecting against external bacterial contamination. In exuding wounds, silver alginate paste maintains a moist environment that promotes natural healing conditions. Dose Askina Calgitrol Paste is very easy to apply and does not require any special skills or equipment. The contents of one package are intended for use by one patient only. Askina Calgitrol can be used within 7 days after opening 1 package. Skin preparation Clean the wound with sterile saline (0.9%) or a suitable cleansing solution and sterile swabs, then dry the skin around the wound 2. Dressing application Askina Calgitrol Paste 15g/100g tube Shake the tube before use, then (i) remove the outer protective film from the tube and (ii) remove the cap. Apply a thick layer of paste over the entire wound surface and apply a secondary dressing to the extent of the exudate. 3. Dressing removal/change (i) Remove the secondary dressing, (ii) rinse the wound thoroughly with sterile saline (0.9%) (iii) and continue to clean the wound thoroughly to remove any remaining Askina Calgitrol paste. Follow procedures (i)–(iii) for applying a new dressing. Askina Calgitrol paste should be changed every time the dressing is changed (once a day or at least every 3 days, depending on the condition of the wound) or if exudate leaks through the additional dressing.
