Descripción del Artículo

Botanical nomenclature: Brugmansia sanguinea / Brugmansia lutea / Datura sanguinea Common name: Red Angel's Trumpet, Red Brugmansia, Red Datura Tree, Red Angel Trumpet Tree, Scarlet Angels Family: solanaceae Origin: Colombia and Bolivia Climate: tropical, subtropical, tropical altitude Brightness: partial shade Height: between 2.00 and 3.00 meters Fast-growing species Flowering: more profusely from mid to late spring and persisting until autumn, but may bloom year-round. The flowers for this species are not so fragrant, but the birds do not seem to care, very attractive to bees, butterflies and birds. Fantastic display of red flowers with a greenish base. Brugmansia sanguinea, is still very rare in cultivation. Few plants evoke as much sighing and attention as this little tree or shrub with huge tubular flowers that persist from spring to autumn. With lush foliage and flowers between 25 and 30 cm in length that are deliciously fragrant, often blooming in their first year from seeds, it is a true gift from the skies ... They can turn a balcony or terrace into a true tropical paradise . In the cool, moist air of night, its aroma is more intense. Planted in pots can reach the height of 90 cm to 1.20 meters in its first year in cultivation, being able to double in size the following year. They promote true sculptures when planted in a set of three plants, which while young and with their trunks still flexible, we can braid them forming a double or triple trunk arvoreta. About the nomenclature: Brugmansia has the name of justin brugmans sebald (1,763-1,819). The common name "angel trumpets" is often shared with the genus Datura (closely related). The genus differs from datura because it is much larger, perennial and woody (the species datura, they are herbaceous), and brugmansia has the hanging branches (datura have the erect branches). Brugmansia sanguinea red flowers, is a species with unique particularity in the genus, are pollinated by hummingbirds, the others are pollinated mainly by bats. Trumpet tubular flowers can range from reddish orange to bright red to scarlet red, depending on the temperature. This species is not a hybrid, the seeds generate the true species with the characteristics described. It is not tolerant to strong afternoon sun, preferring planting in partial shading or filtered sun. The offer for fresh seeds of this species is extremely rare.
