Descripción del Artículo
CIVIL WAR, CONFEDERATE, TROUSER SPUR, SCALLOPED, CV-26, CV-29, NON DUG, PRIVATE PURCHASE
This CV-26 and CV-29, SH G Spur features scalloped arms. This weighs in at 2 5/8 ounces. This has a multi point rowel. One of the strap plates is slightly bent from use. Unmarked. Retains a good gilt patina. This was a private purchase. These were known as Trouser Spurs. The exaggerated neck was intended to hold the pant leg in the slot and keep it from covering the rowel.
This spur was made by Schuyler, Hartley Graham. SH G was a supplier of military goods located in New York City. Their 1864 Catalog of Military Goods was the first "spur book" and relic book in general use by the early relic hunters and Civil War collectors. The firm was incorporated in 1854. They were the largest firearms dealer in the nation at the beginning of the Civil War and grew even more during the conflict by importing large amounts of military goods from Europe for sale.
