UP FOR SALE: Beautiful Victorian sterling silver baby rattle and teething ring, featuring a Hey Diddle Diddle nursery rhyme motif in fine repousse relief. Two hollow silver bells hang from a luminous mother-of-pearl handle, which is engraved with delicate floral details. Each bell is richly detailed with cherub and cloud designs ? classic of late 19th-century silverwork. Both belss are stamped STERLING; one is engraved RICHEY, likely the name of the child it was made for. The silver has a lovely, even patina and gentle wear consistent with age. The mother-of-pearl handle is smooth and intact with no cracks or chips. Bells ring clearly. An exquisite example of Victorian nursery silver, ideal for collectors or as an heirloom display piece.
