Some cables may be missing a pin on the modular end and have two wires connected on some other pin. All the wires on PCI-E cables are either ground or +12v. If your video card requires PCI-E cable(s) that means your video card also contains it's own power supply (which is one of two common points of computer failures). Pin removal tools - there is a flat black single tool called 5557 extractor, lots of listings for this, don't bother, it does not work for these pins although it is supposed to.
