Descripción del Artículo

This is a high-quality Vajravarahi/ Dorje Phagmo or Varahi Tibetan Thangka painting. Vajravarahi is an important fugure in Tibetan Buddhism and a tantric deity associated with the Vajrayana tradition. She is also known by various names such as Vajra Vidarini, Dorje Phagmo, or Varahi. Vajravarahi is considered a fierce and powerful form of the female Buddha, Vajrayogini. In Tibetan Buddhism, Vajravarahi is often depicted with a sow's head on her right side and a vajra-tipped staff or trident (phurba) in her right hand. She is depicted in a dancing posture, symbolizing her dynamic and transformative energy. Vajravarahi represents the enlightened female principle, embodying wisdom, compassion, and the ability to transform negative emotions into positive qualities. Vajravarahi is associated with various practices and rituals aimed at transforming desire and attachment into spiritual realization. Her practice is particularly prominent in the Kagyu and Nyingma lineages of Tibetan Buddhism, where she is considered a key figure in the Chod (cutting through) practice. The Chod practice involves visualizing oneself as Vajravarahi and offering one's body as a feast to appease and subdue negative forces and afflictive emotions. Through this practice, practitioners aim to cultivate fearlessness, overcome ego fixation, and attain enlightenment for the benefit of all beings. It's important to note that Vajravarahi, like other tantric deities, represents symbolic aspects of the enlightened mind and is not to be understood literally. She is revered as a profound symbol of transformation and is a focal point for devotion, meditation, and tantric practices within Tibetan Buddhism.
