Once you see an object that you would like Max to have, simply tap on the object and he will pick it up or interact with the object in some way. For example, if there is a horse you can tap on it so Max can ride to future destinations, or if he is holding a weapon you can tap him to shoot obstacles. Scribblenauts has nearly unlimited possibilities for solving puzzles throughout each level by allowing the player to summon objects by writing them on the screen. For example, writing the word “ladder” can provide Max a way to gain access to a Starite that may be out of reach. The database even has a homonym system that offers distinction between different-sounding names as well as a spellchecker to provide close matches if a word is misspelled. For example, if you write the word “balloon,” you will be given the option to choose between different varieties such as a hot air balloon or toy balloon. Scribblenauts has 220 levels that span over 10 theme areas, all which are ranked on a four-star rating based on difficulty. There are two types of levels: puzzle and action levels. Puzzle levels involve real-life situations (such as saving a trapped character) and Starites are awarded upon determining the solution to complete the puzzle and move forward. Action levels are great for fans of side-scrolling platforms where you lead Max through obstacles in order to reach the end and move on to the next level, collecting Starites along the way. To make things more exciting there are additional challenges that you can do throughout each level to gain extra merits, such as not summoning a weapon to complete the level. Free play can also be unlocked once a level is completed where the player can achieve a gold star for completing the level three consecutive times with no repeat objects. If these options are not enough, there is also a level editor where you can get creative by editing completed levels to provide different outcomes and sharing them with other players on the Nintendo Wi-Fi system.
