Vintage Victoria Flemming Cats Cufflinks Porcelain Enamel Smile Frown Comedy Tragedy Happy Sad Kitten Faces Mid Century Jewelry Artist Designer Signed Cute Whimsical Modernist Design Made in United States USA New York Patent 2472958 Bar Toggle Gold Tone Metal Men’s Accessory Shirt Cuff Wear This is a great looking pair of hand painted porcelain cufflinks made by Victoria Flemming. They have the Comedy Tragedy motif using cat faces instead of masks. One cat is smiling and one is frowning. Each cufflink has a gold gilt border. They measure approximately 1 inch by of an inch. They are signed on the back Victoria Flemming N.Y. and have the Patent number 2472958 on the swivel bar toggle. The patent number is from 1949 and was for the construction of the cufflink toggle. Victoria was born in 1918 and passed away in 2004. She began her career by painting china and became interested in painting porcelain to use as jewelry. She first sold her jewelry at the Greenwich Village Art Show in New York and her career took off from there. Her cufflinks were highly sought after. By the 1970s she had stopped making porcelain painted jewelry. They are in great vintage condition as you can see by the enlarged photographs. The gold edging around the painted porcelain is in intact with no gold missing. There is some gold finish wear and tarnish on the bullet back toggle fitting on one of the cufflinks, but that obviously doesn’t show when they are being worn (see photos). It is hard to find these with the gold border complete and not rubbed off, so these are quite unusual. Please look at the photos as they are part of the description and show the details better than I can describe. This would be a wonderful addition to your collection of figural jewelry. It is a lovely piece of wearable art to add to your wardrobe and the perfect unique gift for any cat lover. Victoria’s cufflinks are quite collectible and getting hard to find.
