WORLD WAR 1 / WW1 US ARMY CONSCRIPTION PHOTOGRAPH - CAMP MEADE c. 1917 ~ Estate Find ~ This original photograph shows a group of US Army conscripts, presumably arriving at camp, before eventually partaking in training for a potential trip to Europe,,, ~ The image is unstaged, unrehearsed and no-one seems particularly bothered to make a show for the camera. ~ The conscripts have an Army escort alongside. ~ The rear of the picture has an ink notation - 'Not a smile on their face Camp Meade MD Sept 1917' ~ Their is also an official ink stamp stating 'Passed by the Committee on Public Information Washington' ~ The picture was acquired as part of an Estate Sale purchase. ~ The image is black and white. ~ Good condition, with some light signs of age, vintage and storage. The item is slightly curled at each side. There are light, although non-invasive cracks to the image. ~ The top edge has light wear, and the upper right edge has a small section missing. ~ All of these observations are visible in the close-up pictures uploaded, showing the full item, followed by details of the the image and also of the rear.
